I'm writing a story in which a character is in a car crash and ends up in the ICU. When she comes out of surgery, it's found that one of her legs is permanently damaged in some way (along with some broken ribs and a concussion, as the crash was head on and quite severe). My setting is present day (2013), Germany (Frankfurt am Main); technically Sherlock fandom but that's largely irrelevant; emergency room/A&E or other walk-in clinic where you might go after an accident. Set in California, 2006. The type of car is a 1967 Chevrolet Impala (three guesses as to the fandom), and it's hit at the driver's-side wheel by a significantly bigger car (or perhaps truck).
